'Sinatra Sings Sinatra' Coming Wednesday to Wolf Trap

Ol' Blue Eyes would have turned 100 this year. Frank Sinatra Jr. salutes his dad, performing hits with the Wolf Trap Orchestra.

This year would have been music legend Frank Sinatra’s 100th birthday. His son, Frank Sinatra Jr., is paying tribute to his father in performances around the country. Next week, on Wednesday, Sept. 2, he performs “Sinatra Sings Sinatra — The Centennial Celebration” at Wolf Trap.

When you’re talking about Sinatra, it’s almost impossible to name all of the hit songs. But they include such classics as “Fly Me to the Moon,” “New York, New York,” and “My Way.”

Sinatra Jr. is a singer, songwriter and conductor and his last album release was “That Face!” in 2006. Sinatra Jr., 71, took over as conductor and music director for his father’s shows in the 1980s.

Sinatra Jr.’s father, the elder Sinatra, would have been 100 years old this year, on Dec. 12. He was born in 1915 in New Jersey and after an award-winning career as a singer, actor and cultural icon that spanned the decades, passed away at age 82 in 1998 in Los Angeles.

Here’s what to expect at Wednesday night’s show, at Wolf Trap’s Filene Center:

A review from a show this summer in Nevada: “The voice, the big band behind him, the memories about his dad, and his wonderful sense of humor and willingness to interact with the audience was fabulous. He told a story about his father that showed his dad to be a regular man with an unbelievable talent to pick himself up and start again. And the music! It was breathtaking.

This was a great show. I highly recommend it for anyone who enjoys those big band years with the wonderful music and the talented artists that came from that era.”

Tickets to Wednesday night’s Wolf Trap show are $25 to $55.
