Here’s a look at what’s open and what’s closed over the holidays in Fairfax County:

County Government: Holiday schedules vary by facility and county agency; please click on agency web pages noted below for more information.

• Dec. 24 – Closed at noon.
• Dec. 25 – Closed.
• Dec. 26 – Closed.
• Jan. 1 – Closed.
• Jan. 2 – Closed.

Office of Elections: Same as county government for days noted above; open Saturday, Jan. 3, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. for absentee voting for Jan. 6 Special Election.

Animal Shelter:

• Dec. 24 – Open noon to 4 p.m.
• Dec. 25 – Closed.
• Dec. 26 – Closed.
• Jan. 1 – Closed.
• Jan. 2 – Open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Courts:

• Dec. 24-26 – Closed.
• Dec. 31 – Closed at noon.

Public Schools and School Offices:

• Dec. 19 – Students released two hours early.

Park Authority:

• Dec. 24 – RECenters will close at noon. George Washington RECenter, nature centers, historic sites, Frying Pan Farm Park and Green Spring Gardens are closed.
• Dec. 25 – All facilities closed.
• Dec. 26 – Regular schedule.
• Dec. 31 – RECenters will close at 4 p.m. George Washington RECenter is closed. Historic sites and nature centers are open 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Frying Pan Farm Park is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; the visitor center is closed. Green Spring Gardens is open noon to 4:30 p.m.; the historic house is closed.

County Trash and Recycling Collection:

Private Collection Service Providers – Residents should contact their trash and recycling collector directly for service schedule changes due to the holidays.

Fairfax County Collection Customers – Trash and recyclables will not be collected on Dec. 25. Customers that normally receive Thursday collections are scheduled for trash and recyclables pick up on Dec. 26. There is no change in the schedule for trash and recycling collections for regular Friday customers. Please have your materials to the curb no later than 6 a.m. to ensure collection. Recycling and Disposal Facilities at I-66 Transfer Station and I-95 Landfill Complex:

• Dec. 24 – Closed at 1 p.m.
