William Fitzgerald Morrissey, 84

On October 4, 2014, Dr. William F. Morrissey (Bill), of Fairfax Station, VA, passed peacefully at his home. He was 84.

Dr. Morrissey was born on August 12, 1930, in Cohoes, NY to the late William Thomas Dee Morrissey and Agnes Fitzgerald Morrissey. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jean Manning Morrissey, his sons Charles F. Morrissey and John T. Morrissey, and his daughter Elisabeth M. Ponsell.

He is survived by his wife, Sylvia DeRepentigny Morrissey, sons William and Joseph Morrissey, daughter Jane Knecht, and stepchildren Kim Taylor (Geoffrey), Mark DeRepentigny, Peter DeRepentigny (Renet) and Matthew DeRepetigny. He is also survived by 23 grandchildren, Billy, Joe, Anna, Michael, Angela, Dana, John, Kennedy, Erin, Kristen, Kaitlin, Danielle, Amanda, David, Sean, Paul, James, Leslie, Star, Fermin, Logan, Taylor and Payton, 9 great grandchildren, Emily, Lauren, Sophia, Jack, Olivia, Jasmine, Michael, Ethan and William, his sisters, Joan Altekruse and Lynn Strike, and his brother John Morrissey.

Bill Morrissey settled in the DC area following attendance at the University of Virginia and the George Washington University School of Medicine. He practiced internal medicine, specializing in the treatment of cardiovascular disease, for 35 years in Arlington, VA and was a past President of the Fairfax Hospital.

He was a Eucharistic Minister at the Church of the Nativity in Burke, VA and travelled twice to Haiti with Operation Starfish, a ministry with a focus on awareness of the poor and action on their plight. Memorial donations may be made to Operation Starfish (c/o Nativity Catholic Church) or the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America. Bill’s family would like to extend a very special thanks for his angel caregivers Georgette, Pat and Kate.

The family welcomes guests to visit on Tuesday, Oct. 7th from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm at Fairfax Memorial Funeral Home.
