• Department seeks recruits as staffing challenges grow (farmvilleherald.com) — The Farmville Police Department is trying to fill five officer vacancies and is actively encouraging local residents to apply, offering a $49,052 starting salary and bonuses for certified officers. Leaders say new state rules, marijuana policies, and national attitudes toward policing have shrunk the applicant pool while nearby agencies compete for talent. Interested residents can learn more and apply through the town’s website. 
• Food pantry receives Food Lion grant (farmvilleherald.com) — A Farmville-based nonprofit food pantry just received a $2,000 grant from the Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation to help fight hunger in Farmville, Prince Edward and Charlotte counties. With more than 2,800 individuals already served this year and demand still rising, FACES leaders say the money will go directly toward buying more nutritious food for local families in need.
• Organization to provide housing (farmvilleherald.com) — A Farmville-raised caregiver is launching Kiana’s Serenity House to offer fully furnished, supportive housing starting in Prince Edward County and then expanding to nearby counties. The program targets people facing barriers like low income, evictions, or past felonies, providing goal-setting help, referrals, and basic household supplies. Residents can already join a waiting list and contact White directly for intake.
