60s Age Group Leads Vaccinations In Stafford and Fredericksburg

People aged 60-69 have received the most vaccines in Fredericksburg and Stafford, according to new data from the Department of Health.

FREDERICKSBURG, VA — People in their 60s lead age groups in Stafford County and Fredericksburg for receiving the COVID-19 vaccine at the start of March, according to new data.

The Virginia Department of Health recently added vaccine demographics data, showing vaccine doses given by age group and racial or ethnic group. But while age data is available for all vaccine doses, race and ethnicity data is missing for 467,850 people with at least one dose statewide.

Among age groups in Stafford and Fredericksburg, people in their 60s account for 4,335 people with at least one dose. The 70s and 50s age groups follow with 4,200 and 3,912 vaccinations respectively. The 50s age group leads the way for fully vaccinated people with 2,204 individuals who have received both vaccine doses.

On a population basis, the 80 and up age group has the most vaccines per 100,000 people. The rate for this age group is 50,998 per 100,000 people for first doses and 27,810 per 100,000 for fully vaccinated people. The 70s age group is second with a rate of 46,271 per 100,000 people for first doses and 23,235 per 100,000 for fully vaccinated people.

People 75 and older were initially eligible in phase 1b starting Jan. 11 before eligibility expanded on Jan. 18 to cover anyone 65 and up and 16 to 64 with an underlying health condition or disability.

Here is the age group breakdown so far for first doses and second doses in Stafford and Fredericksburg:

  • 0-9: 0 doses
  • 10-19: 230 first doses, 90 fully vaccinated
  • 20-29: 2,140 first doses, 1,237 fully vaccinated
  • 30-39: 2,518 first doses, 1,527 fully vaccinated
  • 40-49: 3,212 first doses, 1,948 fully vaccinated
  • 50-59: 3,912 first doses, 2,204 fully vaccinated
  • 60-69: 4,335 first doses, 1,981 fully vaccinated
  • 70-79: 4,200 first doses, 2,109 fully vaccinated
  • 80 and up: 2,019 first doses, 1,101 fully vaccinated

As for the race and ethnicity category, data is missing for 10,166 people with the first dose and 6,303 fully vaccinated people in Fredericksburg and Stafford.

The rate of vaccination per 100,000 people is the highest for the White and Native American populations. Native Americans have the highest rate for the first dose with 10,188 first doses per 100,000 people. White residents have the highest rate for full vaccination with 3,956 fully vaccinated per 100,000 people.

The rate is the lowest for Black residents: 3,371 first doses per 100,000 and 1,317 fully vaccinated per 100,000 people.
Here is the racial and ethnic group breakdown of vaccinations:

  • Asian or Pacific Islander: 315 first doses, fully vaccinated
  • Black: 1,267 first doses, 1,890 fully vaccinated
  • Latino: 1,224 first doses, 2,421 fully vaccinated
  • Native American: 76 first doses, 65 fully vaccinated
  • White: 8,969 first doses, 8,271 fully vaccinated
  • Other race: 549 first doses, 1,162 fully vaccinated
  • Not reported: 10,166 first doses, 7,566 fully vaccinated

In February, the Rappahannock Health District joined Virginia's statewide vaccine registration system. Residents across Virginia can pre-register for the vaccine online, regardless of their current eligibility.
