Bank Robbery Suspect Apprehended In Stafford: Police
A man who was accused of robbing a bank in Stafford last month was also charged with possessing a stolen truck, trailer, and skid steer.
STAFFORD COUNTY, VA — The Stafford County Sheriff's Office has charged a man in connection with the robbery of a SunTrust Bank last month. The man, Karl Mitchell, was also charged with possessing a stolen truck from Fredericksburg, a stolen trailer from Culpeper, and a stolen skid steer from Warrenton, according to authorities.
Around noon on Friday, May 14, the Stafford County Sheriff's Office received a request for assistance from the Warrenton Police Department, according to an update from the sheriff's office. Authorities in Warrenton were attempting to locate a stolen piece of construction equipment, a skid steer, and had tracked it to Shale Court in the England Run North neighborhood.
A Stafford deputy claimed that when he responded to the address provided by the Warrenton Police Department, Mitchell was using the stolen piece of equipment for work, according to the sheriff's office.

As a deputy continued to investigate, he determined that more of Mitchell's equipment was stolen. The Ford F-350 pickup truck that Mitchell was using was reported as stolen from Fredericksburg, the deputy said.
The trailer attached to the truck had an altered vehicle identification number plate, according to authorities. Deputies claimed that the trailer was stolen from Culpeper County.

During the investigation, Mitchell was also identified as the suspect from a bank robbery at the SunTrust on Prosperity Lane last month, police said.
Mitchell was charged with robbery and possession of stolen goods. The sheriff's office said that additional charges are possible as the investigation continues.
Mitchell is being held without bond at the Rappahannock Regional Jail.
