Christmas 2019: What's Open, What's Closed In Fredericksburg

See how the Christmas holiday will affect government offices, transportation schedules and grocery store hours in Fredericksburg.

FREDERICKSBURG, VA — Christmas Day falls on a Wednesday, meaning local government and other services will take a break mid week. It's a given that many services are closed on Christmas Day, but others will be closed Christmas Eve and surrounding days as well.

We've rounded up the closings and schedule changes to know around Fredericksburg. Schools are closed for an extended winter break, while other services will run on half-day schedules on Christmas Eve.

Fredericksburg Government Offices: All city offices and facilities will be closed on Tuesday, Dec. 24 and Wednesday, Dec. 25.

State courts: Circuit Court, General District Court and Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court are closed Dec. 24-26.

Fredericksburg City Schools: Students are on winter break Dec. 23-Jan 3. All offices are closed.

Fredericksburg Police Department: Administrative offices will be closed Dec. 24-25. See Rappahannock Regional Jail visiting hours.

Post Offices: Closed Dec. 25. No mail will be delivered.

FRED Transit: Closed Dec. 24-25. (VF1 & VS1) VRE feeder bus service operating on "S" schedule Dec. 26-27. No a.m. or p.m. bus service for D6 or VQ1.

VRE: Closed Dec. 25. Planned "S" schedule on Dec. 24.

Parking: Street parking allowed for four hours in downtown during the holidays instead of the normal two-hour limit. Sophia Street parking garage will be on regular schedule Dec. 25 and during the holidays. First three hours are free and each hour additional is $1 up to a maximum of $8 per day.

Central Rappahannock Regional Library: All locations will be closed Dec. 24-25.

Trash & Recycling: There will be no trash or recycling collection on Dec. 25. Trash and recycling days will shift the remainder of the week: Wednesday service will take place Thursday, Thursday service will take place Friday, Friday service will take place Saturday. The Belman Rd. Recycling Center and the Stafford Landfill will close at noon Christmas Eve and remain closed Christmas day. Normal operations will resume Dec. 26.

Movie Theaters: Most area movie theaters will be open Christmas Day. We would encourage calling your theater of choice to confirm hours.

Grocery Stores: Area grocery stores hours are as follows:

  • Wegmans, 2281 Carl D Silver Pkwy: 6 a.m.-6 p.m. on Christmas Eve. Closed on Christmas Day.
  • Publix - Cosner's Corner, 9601 Jefferson Davis Hwy: 7 a.m.-7 p.m. on Christmas Eve. Closed on Christmas Day.
  • Lidl, 5455 Plank Rd: 8 a.m.-8 p.m. on Christmas Eve. Closed on Christmas Day.
  • Giant: All stores will close at 7 p.m. Dec. 24 and re-open at 8 a.m. on Dec. 26.
  • ALDI: All stores will be open 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Dec. 24 and will be closed on Christmas Day.
