Crash Down Embankment Sends One to Hospital
Fire department units responded to a crash on Mary Washington Boulevard this morning.

A woman has been sent to Mary Washington Hospital for injuries sustained in a vehicle crash down an embankment on Mary Washington Boulevard Thursday morning.
Deputy Mike Jones with the Fredericksburg Fire Department said the crash occurred just before 8 a.m. and involved a single vehicle and occupant. The extent of the patient’s injuries is not known at this time, but the woman reportedly had abdominal pain.
Fredericksburg Emergency Communications received a 911 call reporting a motor vehicle crash on Mary Washington Boulevard where it meets Hospital Drive just below the Mary Washington Healthcare facility at 7:43 a.m., said Jones in a release.

Jones said Fire Department units responded and located the vehicle down an embankment about 15 feet below the road surface in a stand of pine trees.
"After an initial assessment, the City’s aerial truck was requested to assist with extricating the patient out of the vehicle and up the embankment," said Jones in a release. "This required uses of a Stokes basket stretcher and removal of some small tree limbs."

The patient was assessed, packaged for transport and moved from the scene to a waiting Fire Department ambulance for the short transport up the hill to MWHC, said Jones.
Fredericksburg Police Department officers are investigating the incident, said Jones.
