Fredericksburg Baseball Stadium Groundbreaking Feb. 24

A groundbreaking ceremony for the city's new baseball stadium, which beginning in 2020 will be home to its new baseball team, has been set.

FREDERICKSBURG, VA—A groundbreaking ceremony for the city's new baseball stadium, which beginning in 2020 will be home to its new Class A baseball team, will be held 2-5 p.m. Feb. 24 at the Fredericksburg Expo & Conference Center, 2371 Carl D. Silver Parkway at Celebrate Virginia.

It's free and open to the public, and will include the official outdoor groundbreaking as well as an indoor event with light refreshments and team merchandise. Opportunities to buy season tickets will be presented, with an emphasis on joining the Founders Club, which provides priority seat selection and other exclusive events.

Fredericksburg Baseball representatives and city officials will be on hand, as well. The team—now known as the Potomac Nationals—will continue play next season at Pfitzner Stadium in Woodbridge, its home since 1984.

P-Nats owner Art Silber says the team likely will have a new name when it moves into its new digs, which will be a 5,000-seat stadium at Celebrate Virginia near Central Park on Interstate 95. The move was announced last year after efforts to build a new home in the Woodbridge area failed.

Fredericksburg will make annual payments of $1.05 million to the team for 30 years, with the payment projected "to be offset through new tax revenue earned at the stadium and events revenue from non-game days."
