Fredericksburg Breweries Offer Curbside Pickup During Coronavirus

FREDERICKSBURG, VA — With Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam's mandate to close restaurants and bars, except for carryout and delivery services, due to the new coronavirus, or COVID-19, Fredericksburg breweries are finding ways to keep their customers satisfied while generating revenue during these uncertain times.

Over the past week, breweries in the Fredericksburg area have rolled out various forms of curbside pickup service to prevent the spread of the coronavirus — with most breweries indicating they plan to continue the service until the crisis passes. The breweries are asking customers to call, email, or fill out an online form and their orders will be brought to them upon arrival. Some breweries also are offering home deliveries.

At Maltese Brewing Company, for example, customers can call or text the brewery at 540-385-9360 with their orders and the brewery will fill their crowlers or growlers and bring the orders outside when the customer arrives.

Customers can still enjoy a pint inside Maltese Brewing's taproom, although the brewery has reduced inside seating to comply with state mandates and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommendations. The brewery has plenty of outside seating where customers can spread out and enjoy a beer.

Based on the bleak economic outlook for at least the next couple of months, Maltese Brewing was forced to make the tough decision to lay off its beertending staff. The brewery's owners, managers and brewer "are wearing all of the hats until normalcy is restored," Maltese Brewing General Manager Ray Parrish said Saturday in an email to Patch.

"The support we’ve seen this week from our 'family' of regular guests, however, has been overwhelming, and getting our entire staff back to work is an option we’re actively considering, barring a serious downturn this weekend or additional governmental restrictions on operations," Parrish said.

Maltese Brewing, located at 11047 Pierson Drive near the Fredericksburg Country Club, also has plenty of parking for customers who want to drive up and receive curbside service.

Maltese Brewing customers can call or text the brewery at 540-385-9360 with their beer order. The brewery will fill their crowlers or growlers, bag them up, and trundle them out when the customer arrives. Maltese Brewing also sells gift cards for customers to give to their friends and family.

6 Bears & A Goat Brewing Co.

6 Bears & A Goat Brewing Co. said it is complying with Northam's mandate to significantly reduce its indoor seating capacity, although the brewery does have outdoor seating. It's accepting online orders for food, beer and wine, both curbside pickup and delivery. Beer and wine orders must be received by adults 21 years or older, the brewery said.

1781 Brewing Co.

1781 Brewing Co. is not allowing more than five people inside its barn. The brewery has all of its outdoor seating spaced out for social distancing. 1781 Brewing also is offering all of its beers on tap in to-go containers. "[W]e are highly suggesting taking your beer to go as we will be offering bulk discounts," the brewery said. Customers can buy three crowlers and get 20 percent off or buy six crowlers and get 30 percent off. The brewery is offering 20 percent off bottles and growler fills.

Adventure Brewing Co.

Adventure Brewing Co. is offering curbside service. Customers are asked to fill out a delivery/pickup order form. Customers should call the brewery when they arrive — 540-242-8876. Adventure Brewing will also need to verify identification prior to purchase. Staff will take customers' growlers from their vehicles to sanitize and fill them or customers can come inside the brewery to get them filled.

Barley Naked Brewing Co.

Barley Naked Brewing Co. is open for growler fills. Under the governor's order, the brewery is limiting its tasting room and outdoor patio area to 10 people max. The brewery's updated hours are: M-F - 3 p.m.-7 p.m.; Saturday - 2 p.m. - 7 p.m.; and Sunday - 2 p.m. - 5 p.m.

Highmark Brewery

Highmark Brewery's taproom will be open from noon to 8 p.m. to accommodate to-go sales (cans and growlers). According to the state mandate, its taproom capacity cannot exceed more than 10 people at a time. The brewery, though, has outdoor seating available.
