Fredericksburg Gets $7.5M In Federal Transit Funding

FREDERICKSBURG, VA — The City of Fredericksburg received $7.5 million in federal funding authorized by the Federal Transit Authority under the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security, or CARES, Act, the state's two U.S. senators said Friday.

Through the CARES Act, Congress provided $25 billion for transit agencies across the country to respond to the coronavirus crisis. Fredericksburg received its funding under the FTA’s Urbanized Area Formula Program.

“We’re pleased to see critical federal dollars go towards supporting Fredericksburg’s transit system,” U.S. Sens. Mark Warner and Tim Kaine said Friday in a joint statement. “This grant will help the city maintain their services as well as address the added expenses caused by the coronavirus.”

The funds will provide operating assistance to maintain services in order to respond to and recover from the crisis. Fredericksburg can use the funds to cover expenditures such as salaries, wages, benefits, maintenance, and other related expenses.
