Fredericksburg Hires Hampton Roads Official To Lead FRED Transit

FREDERICKSBURG, VA —Jamie Jackson, who served as director of transit development for Hampton Roads Transit, will be joining FREDericksburg Regional Transit in March as its new director. Jackson served as deputy executive director of the Williamsburg Area Transit Authority prior to joining Hampton Roads Transit in October 2016.

Jackson, who plans to start her new job with FRED Regional Transit on March 2, is a graduate of the College of William and Mary where she received a bachelor's degree in International Relations. She also has a master's degree in public administration from Virginia Commonwealth University.

"As our region evolves and grows it will be important to better integrate enhancements that bring more regular transit operations to community assets," Fredericksburg City Manager Tim Baroody said Wednesday in a statement. "We look forward to Ms. Jackson's leadership and experience bringing us to the next level in this new decade."

Jackson will take over FRED Regional Transit director from Wendy Kimball, who retired Jan. 31 after serving as director since 2014 and assistant director from 2007 until taking over as director.

"FREDericksburg Regional Transit is a great transit system that continues to have a positive impact on the region," Jackson said in a statement.

FRED Regional Transit offers public transportation services on weekdays in Frederickburg and Spotsylvania and Stafford counties. Additional services include weekday feeder bus services to Virginia Railway Express in Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania, a VDOT commuter shuttle in north Stafford County, and an Eagle Express weekend service for the University of Mary Washington.
