Fredericksburg Restaurant Inspections: 3 Violations At 2 Places

The Rappahannock Area Health Districted only found violations at two restaurants during their final four inspections in May 2021.

FREDERICKSBURG, VA — Officials from the Rappahannock Area Health District inspected multiple food storage and preparation businesses across the region from May 24 to June 1, including two restaurants with violations.

As coronavirus restrictions continue to loosen around the state, health inspectors are returning to conduct restaurant inspections in person. However, some visits, such as those for training purposes, can be conducted virtually.

Violations at restaurants typically focus on factors that can contribute to food contamination. The local health department also performs a re-inspection to ensure that possible violations have been corrected.

For every observed violation, the inspector provides a specific corrective action that can be completed to rectify the violation. Sometimes these are simple, and violations can be corrected during the course of the inspection.

The majority of the Rappahannock Area Health District's most recent inspections were for training purposes. The health district conducted most of these training inspection over the phone from May 24 to June 1.

The training inspections were scheduled to discuss Executive Order 79, according to the health department's website. The executive order, which was signed on May 14 and went into effect on May 28, lifted "commonsense public health restrictions due to the coronavirus."

The executive order essentially ended the mask mandate for unvaccinated people in Virginia, except under specific circumstances or when required by a business.

With the focus on the training inspections, only five routine or follow-up inspections were conducted in the area from May 23 to June 2. Only two of those five inspections found any violations. No violations were found at Z's Southern Kitchen, the Doris Buffett Pool, or the Sugar Lamps food truck.
