Gun Giveback Event Hosted By Fredericksburg Police Department

FREDERICKSBURG, VA — A gun giveback event will be held at the Fredericksburg Police Department's headquarters on Saturday, May 8. The police department is located at 2200 Cowan Boulevard in Fredericksburg.

The gun giveback intends to give residents a safe way to dispose of unwanted firearms, according to the police department. Residents can turn in their guns for disposal with no questions asked.

After they are rendered safe, some donated firearms will be destroyed by the police department. Other relinquished guns will be donated to the Virginia Department of Forensic Science to assist with their research.

Gun givebacks, like this one, allow for residents to get rid of their firearms without worrying about the weapons being stolen or used in a crime. In Virginia from 2012 to 2017, a total of 43,135 guns were reported stolen, according to the Center for American Progress.
