How To Participate In Virginia's Republican Nominating Convention
The Republican Party of Virginia will hold an "unassembled convention" May 8 and allow delegates to cast ballots at sites across the state.
VIRGINIA — The Republican Party of Virginia has decided to hold an "unassembled convention" on May 8 and allow delegates to cast ballots for governor, lieutenant governor and attorney general at 37 sites across the state. Voting sites for the convention will be announced beginning April 12.
In February, the Republican Party of Virginia’s State Central Committee announced plans to hold an in-person, drive-in convention at Liberty University in Lynchburg in order to avoid violating the ban on large gatherings due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
However, that proposal was called off because Liberty University had not given its approval to hold the convention on its property and due to the difficulty of thousands of vehicles from across the state traveling to a single site on the same day.
