Kings Dominion To Reopen, No Face Masks For Fully Vaccinated

Kings Dominion will open for the 2021 season on Saturday. Officials said reservations will be required, including for season pass holders.

DOSWELL, VA — Kings Dominion will open for the 2021 season on Saturday. Officials said reservations will be required, including for season pass holders.

The amusement park, located in Doswell just north of Richmond, closed in March 2020 at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. It reopened in December for a few special events. At the start of the 2021 season, Kings Dominion's hours will be 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

All visitors to Kings Dominion who are 5 and older and not fully vaccinated will be required to wear a face mask outdoors when they are unable to socially distance except on water attractions. Masks also will be required for people who are not vaccinated while indoors unless they are eating or drinking.

Kings Dominion said face coverings will not be required for visitors who are fully vaccinated, based on the COVID-19 guidance released last week by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

“The wait is finally over and we are so very excited to welcome our guests back to the park,” Bridgette Bywater, Kings Dominion vice president and general manager, said in a statement. “This has been a difficult year and a half for many, so it feels good knowing that Kings Dominion is a fun place where people can finally get out in a safe environment, have an amazing experience, and make some new lifelong memories with their family and friends.”

Busch Gardens in Williamsburg, which is already open, also is no longer requiring face coverings for visitors who are fully vaccinated.

“We will not require proof of vaccine, but ask our guests to respectfully comply with our revised policy,” Busch Gardens said. “All Busch Gardens Williamsburg and Water Country USA park employees will be required to continue to wear face coverings at this time.”

Busch Gardens also is requiring advance online reservations. Visit the amusement park’s website to make a reservation.
