STAFFORD COUNTY, VA — All lanes of Interstate 95 will remain open at the Truslow Road overpass in Stafford County for the remainder of the week, the Virginia Department of Transportation said. The demolition work on the overpass, which would have closed lanes on I-95, has been put on hold due to the rainy weather forecast.

Single-lane closures were scheduled to happen at the overpass area in both northbound and southbound lanes starting at 9 p.m. Wednesday and lasting through Thursday morning. On Thursday, a single-lane closure was scheduled on the northbound side of I-95 from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Full stops, lasting as long as 30 minutes, in both directions also have been cancelled from midnight Wednesday to 3 a.m. Thursday.

Crews are replacing the Truslow Road overpass as part of the I-95 Express Lanes Fredericksburg Extension project. Crews are making good progress on the demolition work, VDOT spokeswoman Kelly Hannon said in an email to Patch.

During the lane closures this week, VDOT deployed its overhead message boards up and down the I-95 corridor to alert travelers to the work zone and give them an opportunity to choose an alternate route if they wished, Hannon said.

Truslow Road will be closed at the I-95 overpass for about nine months, with a new overpass expected to be put in place by this fall. Built in 1963, the Truslow Road bridge had become structurally deficient, according to VDOT.
