Local Nurse Featured As Local Hero For Work Supporting Colleagues

FREDERICKSBURG, VA – A local nurse has been featured as a local hero on Rachael Ray's daytime talk show for her work supporting her fellow frontline workers.

On Tuesday, Stacy Mason of Remington was featured in a segment called "The Nice List," which celebrated local heroes and people making a difference in their communities.

Mason is a registered nurse with Mary Washington Healthcare who recognized a need for her fellow frontline workers during the pandemic: help grocery shopping after long shifts. She and her colleagues began helping each other by picking up items like diapers if they could find them and bringing them into work for coworkers who needed them.

Mason was inspired to launch the "cupboard," which functions like a lending library. Frontline workers are encouraged to take what they need, no questions asked, and, if they're able to, donate what they can.

Once Mason launched the cupboard, the community offered support and donations as well.

"To have that support from our community means the absolute world to us," Mason said.

On the show, Ray presented Mason with a $10,000 donation and 1,000 products for donation to the cupboard.
