Local theater group tackles Human Trafficking
"Between the Cracks" will be performed by The Rude Mechanicals of Fredericksburg

Between the Cracks, a play about the dangers of human trafficking will be performed by The Rude Mechanicals of Fredericksburg, Friday, Jan. 25 at 7 p.m., in Lee Hall, Rm. 411, at University of Mary Washington. The performance is free.
Based on a true story, BETWEEN THE CRACKS tells the harrowing plight of a young girl as she slips, through her circumstances and own naivety, into an invisible world that exists between the cracks of our broken society. Filled with humor and a mix of teenage anxiety, this show will both entertain and illuminate, raising questions about responsibility and the cost of ignoring the needs of the vulnerable within the community.
The play was written by Derek Brown, founder and CEO of Actorshop Ltd., UK. Brown also wrote Boil the Frog Slowly that was performed by The Rude Mechanicals of Fredericksburg, to call attention to domestic violence.

“I want people to see that it could happen,” explained Fred Franklin, director of The Rude Mechanicals. “You can watch a play and realize that it’s not just entertainment.”
The play is sponsored by Central Virginia Justice Initiative, a local faith based non-profit that fights human trafficking, and the University of Mary Washington, for Human Trafficking Awareness Month.
