STAFFORD COUNTY, VA — A man from Stafford County was arrested on Saturday after he was accused of driving into a home, abandoning his car, assaulting a victim, and fighting deputies as they tried to take him into custody, according to the Stafford County Sheriff's Office. The man, Edward McCall, faces several charges and is being held without bond at the Rappahannock Regional Jail.

At 2:24 a.m. on Saturday, May 29, a Stafford County deputy responded to Deacon Road near Grafton Village for a report of a car accident. A vehicle's automatic emergency response system contacted 911 after an airbag deployed, the sheriff's office said.

After arriving on the scene, the deputy found a BMW sedan with "significant damage" in the yard of a home on Payton Drive. Authorities determined that the sedan left a road, drove through a ditch and two fences, and struck an above-ground pool and a house.

A caller told emergency personnel that they needed help immediately, according to the police report. When police arrived, they heard a commotion inside the home. The officers claimed they saw McCall assaulting a person inside the home.

Deputies also said that McCall assaulted them as they attempted to take him into custody. "Deputies utilized a taser, which had little effect on McCall," the sheriff's office wrote on Facebook. McCall was eventually handcuffed and taken to jail.

McCall is charged with assault and battery, assault on law enforcement, obstruction of justice, reckless driving, hit and run, destruction of property and driving on a suspended license. He is being held without bond at the Rappahannock Regional Jail.
