The pedestrian, who was waiting on the shoulder, had been involved in an earlier two-vehicle crash at the same location.
WARREN COUNTY, VA — Virginia State Police are investigating a two-car crash that occurred around 5:45 a.m. on Dec. 4 that killed a man who was standing on the shoulder of Interstate 66 in Warren County. The man who was killed was waiting outside his car on the shoulder after he was involved in a different accident earlier that morning.
A 2005 Toyota Sienna was traveling west on I-66 in the right lane when the driver lost control and collided with a 2016 Freightliner tractor-trailer that was traveling in the left lane. The impact caused the Toyota to run off the right side of the interstate and strike the man standing on the right shoulder.
The pedestrian, Oscar Fernandez, 60, of Alexandria, had been involved in a two-vehicle crash at the same location, near the 11-mile marker on I-66. He died at the scene. His body was transported to the Office of Chief Medical Examiner in Manassas for an autopsy and examination.
