Martin Luther King Jr. Day is a federal holiday observed on the third Monday of January. It celebrates the life and achievements of Martin Luther King Jr., an influential American civil rights leader.
It is very important to honor and reflect on Dr. King’s civil rights movement, which helped to reshape American political and social life. He opened people's eyes in a good way and removed the darkness prevailing at that time. His work is inspiring for all of us.
Today, as we look back into our history, we see that the struggle for justice is not new, but neither is justice unattainable. And as we look with one glance back, we look with another ahead, envisioning a better future for all Americans. Message of equality is endorsed by Islam. Holy Qur’an’s teaching explains how equality matters in Islam. God says, “O mankind, We have created you from a male and a female; and We have made you into tribes and sub-tribes that you may recognize one another. Verily, the most honorable among you, in the sight of God, is he who is the most righteous among you. Surely, God is All-knowing, All- Aware” (49:14).
