Masked Suspect Arrested After Robbery of Cosner's Corner Subway Restaurant
A 25-year-old York County man has been arrested and charged in connection with a string of recent robberies in Spotsylvania County.

Police have arrested one of two suspects in connection with the robbery of a Spotslvania County Subway restaurant Saturday, Dec. 13.
On that date, patrol deputies responded to a report of a robbery in progress at the Subway at Cosner’s Corner. Two masked robbers fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of money before law enforcement could arrive.
Detectives from the Spotsylvania Sheriff’s Criminal Investigation Unit responded to conduct a crime scene investigation and interviewed an off duty law enforcement officer, who was shopping in the area at the time. The officer told police he saw the suspect vehicle speeding away from the area and noted the description of the driver and license plate number.

Detectives continued to investigate the matter and discovered that the Newport News Police Department was working a string of recent robberies involving a similar vehicle. Spotsylvania Detectives and members of the Newport News P.D. ultimately identified the suspect as 25-year-old Michael Thomas Ellison of York County.
Ellison was later located in a shopping center in the Newport News area and was arrested on warrants obtained by Spotsylvania Sheriff’s Detectives for armed robbery, use of a firearm in commission of a felony, wearing a mask in public, possession of a firearm after being convicted of a felony and grand larceny.

Ellison is currently being held without bond on Spotsylvania County charges while further charges are pending in reference to the Newport News area robberies. An investigation is ongoing to identify the second suspect.
