Northern Virginia Weather: Mother's Day Weekend Less Than Ideal

STERLING, VA—Let's get straight to the point, boys and girls. Weather-wise, there's not a lot to like about this 2019 Mother's Day weekend in the Northern Virginia area. So says the National Weather Service and other area forecasters. We begin with a something of a drab Saturday, with cloud cover much of the day amid relatively crisp temperatures and, yep, possible showers.

Mother's Day itself doesn't get better, as bluntly put by the Washington Post's Capital Weather Gang: "(R)ain will be a good bet most of the day as a low pressure tracks our way along the stalled-out front to our south. Highs may get stuck in the 50s in many spots, with temperatures generally striving for 60."

Friday Night: Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm before 11pm, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms between 11pm and 2am. Some storms could produce gusty winds. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 57. Southwest wind 6 to 8 mph becoming north after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
