The suspect in the attack allegedly had exposed himself to other Hilton Garden Inn guests and had walked through the hotel lobby naked.

FREDERICKSBURG, VA — A Fredericksburg police officer suffered a broken nose and concussion Thursday night after responding to a call from the Hilton Garden Inn about a guest who allegedly had exposed himself to other hotel guests and had walked through the hotel lobby naked.
The officer, a two-year veteran of the Fredericksburg Police Department, was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
The police were notified about the hotel guest at about 9 p.m. Thursday. Two patrol officers went to the Hilton Garden Inn, at 1060 Hospitality Lane, at the request of hotel management to issue a notice for trespassing.

The police officers went to the guest’s room and found the door ajar. After knocking and making verbal notifications, the officers entered the room and found the guest, Dennis Johnson III, 41, of Fredericksburg, naked inside the room, the police said Friday.
One of the two officers provided Johnson with a copy of the notice for trespassing to which he crumpled and threw on the ground. The officers were able to convince Johnson to put clothes on and leave the hotel.

One of the officers found a bag in the closet and offered it to Johnson so he could put his belongings in it, the department said.
At that moment, Johnson allegedly picked up his laptop computer and began assaulting the officer, striking her in the head with the laptop and punching her in the face, according to the police. The other officer was able to take Johnson into custody with the assistance of additional officers.
Johnson was arrested on charges of indecent exposure and assault on a law enforcement officer. He remains incarcerated at the Rappahannock Regional Jail without bond.
