Police Seek Handy Mart Shooting Suspect

A 21-year-old Bowling Green resident was reportedly shot in the leg at the Handy Mart on Plank Road in Fredericksburg Wednesday.

Fredericksburg Police are searching for a suspect who reportedly shot a man in the leg at the Handy Mart on Plank Road Wednesday.

Around 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, a 21-year-old Bowling Green resident and his cousin were reportedly driving through the parking lot of the Spotsylvania Towne Center when they exchanged words with another male who was standing next to a white vehicle.

The victim and his cousin left the mall and stopped for fuel at the Handy Mart at 3054 Plank Road when they saw the man again in the white car parked nearby. When the victim exited the business, he once again exchanged words with the other man, who then pulled out a handgun and shot the victim in the leg. The suspect then fled from the scene in the white vehicle.

The victim’s cousin drove him to the Spotsylvania Regional Medical Center and authorities there contacted police.

The suspect was described as an 18 to 20-year-old year old black male with short dreadlocks wearing a red shirt and a dark ball cap. Police say he was accompanied by a light-skinned black or Hispanic female and another black male with longer dreadlocks, both of whom are described to be in their late teens or early 20s. The investigation is ongoing.
