The George Washington Regional Commission (GWRC) Executive Director, Dr. Linda Millsaps, has submitted her resignation.
The George Washington Regional Commission (GWRC) Executive Director Dr. Linda Millsaps, announced this week that she is resigning her position with the commission. The commission's mission is to solve regionally significant issues for localities in Planning District 16, which includes the City of Fredericksburg, Stafford, Spotsylvania, Caroline, and King George counties.
Dr. Millsaps has served as the executive director for nearly three years and during that time the organization has been a key player in improving the region. The commission has increased the response rate to the U.S. Census, initiated efforts to create and grow employment opportunities, partnered with the Continuum of Care to eliminate homelessness, supported GO Virginia Region 6 economic development efforts, supported GWRideConnect's ride-matching service, and has moved the region forwarded in environmental planning, rural transportation planning, and affordable housing. Upon hearing of Dr. Millsaps' departure, GWRC Board Chair Kathy Binder of King George reflected, “We have been pleased with what GWRC has been able to accomplish with Dr. Millsaps at the helm and look forward to the next phase of implementation on behalf of Planning District 16.”

“I have thoroughly enjoyed working with the amazing staff at GWRC. They work hard to make a difference every day and put their heart into improving the region,” says Millsaps. “I have also been blessed to work with some of the best community partners possible. They, and some very committed board members, have made this a difficult choice. But it is time to move to a new era in my life. I am grateful for the opportunity to have served PD16.”
