FREDERICKSBURG, VA — Every good dog needs a home, especially a dog who has had to overcome difficulties. Kenny, a dog available at the Fredericksburg SPCA, has overcome Heartworm and is now ready to get out of the shelter and find his forever home.

Kenny is a 3-year-old mixed breed dog, according to the SPCA. He's a large dog who weighs around 44 pounds.

"Kenny is a survivor who is looking to catch his big break this summer," the Fredericksburg SPCA said. "He just finished his painful but life-saving heartworm treatment in our Locke Community Medical Center. He is now looking for a home to call his own."

Kenny is not particularly well-adapted for life in the shelter. "He is steadily losing weight in the shelter due to stress," the SPCA said. "So getting him in a home is a top priority for us!"

The SPCA described Kenny as "a nervous nelly." They noted that "his decompression period is going to help save his life."

"Getting to know Kenny to his core through patience, love, and compassion is the key to creating a bond with this soul searcher," according to the SPCA. "If you're shy and a little awkward like our boy Kenny, you know that it takes time to trust and open up to others - especially if you haven't had those bonds before."

Kenny has progressed and gained confidence with the shelter's volunteer dog walkers, but SPCA staff believe that Kenny will truly start to blossom at a home of his own. Rescue an animal is not right for everyone, but it can be an extremely rewarding experience.

That experience becomes even more rewarding with a charmer like Kenny. The shelter said that Kenny doesn't know how to snuggle or play with a toy yet, but he has his own passions.

Namely, Kenny loves cheese. White cheddar or American singles: Kenny is all about that gooey stuff. He also enjoys walks through quiet trails, taking in the sights and sounds of nature.

With his love of cheese and appreciation of natural beauty, Kenny is clearly a sophisticated dog. Now, he just needs someone to take a chance on him.

More information about Kenny and the adoption process is available on the SPCA's website. To set up a meeting with Kenny, interested families can email Matchmakers@fredspca.org
