Suspect Charged In Connection With Fredericksburg Shooting: Cops
A man has been arrested and charged in connection with Thursday's shooting. The suspect also suffered gunshot wounds, police said.

FREDERICKSBURG, VA — A suspect accused of shooting and killing a man in Fredericksburg yesterday has been charged and is in police custody, according to a report from the Fredericksburg Police Department. Authorities identified the suspect as Arturo Barnes, a 28-year-old Fredericksburg resident.
One person suffered fatal wounds in the shooting, while a second victim, who authorities later identified as Barnes, underwent surgery at a nearby hospital on Thursday afternoon.

The deceased victim was identified as Tyriek Powell, a 20-year-old resident of Fredericksburg, the police department said. Barnes and Powell were the only two people injured in the shooting, according to the police department.
Authorities first received a report of a shooting at 2:48 p.m. on Thursday, June 3. A caller reported that a man shot two people and fled on foot toward Hickok Circle, according to a report from the police department. The shooting occurred in the 3300 block of Fall Hill Avenue and Wicklow Drive, near the Cutz N Restore Barber Shop and attached Neighborhood Grocery Store.

In a Facebook post, the police department said Powell and Barnes exchanged gunfire on Thursday afternoon. Police claimed that after the shooting, Barnes fled the area on foot and took himself to a hospital to receive treatment for gunshot wounds.
The police department did say what events could have led to the shooting.
Photos from the Fredericksburg Free Lance-Star showed crime scene tape blocking off the shopping center near the Cutz N Restore Barber Shop and the Neighborhood Grocery Store Check & Cash. Their photos also showed shattered glass doors at the two businesses.
Barnes was charged on Friday with several warrants, the police department said. He is charged with second degree murder, use of a firearm in commission of a felony, shooting a firearm in a public place, two counts of shooting into an occupied building, two counts of destruction of property, and one count of reckless handling of a firearm.
Barnes is being held without bond, police said.
