Shooting In Fredericksburg Kills One, Suspect Arrested: Police

A suspect is in police custody after one man was killed in shooting on Saturday night in the City of Fredericksburg, police said.

FREDERICKSBURG, VA — One man was shot and killed in the City of Fredericksburg on Saturday night, according to the Fredericksburg Police Department. The victim was identified as Chinonso Ibe, a 39-year-old resident of Stafford County.

Authorities said they arrested a suspect in connection with the shooting on Sunday morning, after initially asking the public for information. The Fredericksburg Police Department identified the suspect as 45-year-old Jacquin Davis of Fredericksburg.

Fredericksburg's 911 center first received a report of a shooting at 10:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 26. Callers reported a shooting in the 100 block of Wellington Road. Wellington Road is located just off of Route 1, to the southwest of downtown Fredericksburg.

When officers arrived on the scene, they found Ibe suffering from a gunshot wound, according to the police report. He was taken to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead.

After a preliminary investigation and search, authorities determined that Davis was connected to the shooting that killed Ibe. Davis was arrested on Sunday morning and charged in connection with Ibe's death.

Davis is currently charged with second degree murder and the use of a firearm in commission of a felony. He is being held without bond at the Rappahannock Regional Jail.

Davis is scheduled to be arraigned in Fredericksburg General District Court on Tuesday, June 29. If found guilty of second degree murder, Davis could be sentenced to up to 40 years in prison, according to sentencing guidelines.

The 100 block of Wellington Lakes Drive, where the shooting occurred, is a mostly residential area that includes the Camden Hills apartment complex. On Google, one person wrote a review citing concerns about their safety in the area.

"Used to be a nice place to live, but it's no longer safe here," Dianna Thomas wrote of the apartment complex on Google. "I pay too much to not feel safe and comfortable in my own apartment."
