SPOTSYLVANIA, VA — The Spotsylvania County Museum, located at 9019 Old Battlefield Blvd., will be closing Wednesday to give staff time to move the museum's collection to its new site. The museum will open in late February at its new location in the former Lick Run Community Center on Route 3.

The new site, located on eight acres owned by Spotsylvania County, will provide better access for visitors and offer more flexibility, as well as the potential for future expansion, according to museum officials. The area is buffered by land under the control of the American Battlefield Trust and features wayside exhibits and a hiking trail.

Museum officials do not have an exact date for the opening of the new site. The museum, which has been located in its current location since 2013, operates under partnership between Spotsylvania County and the Spotsylvania Historical Association.

The new location will feature 1,800 square feet of exhibits as well as space for special exhibits that will rotate on a regular basis. The museum will be open seven days a week from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., with the exception of Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, Thanksgiving Day and New Year's Day.

The first rotating exhibit will feature influential Spotsylvania residents throughout the county's history. The county's historical collections will also be located on site and will be available to researchers through scheduled appointments.
