Spotsylvania Wins Competition For Large Veterans Affairs Clinic
The Veterans Affairs clinic in Spotsylvania will be one of the largest privately owned Veterans Affairs medical centers in the country.

SPOTSYLVANIA COUNTY, VA — Carnegie Management and Development Corp. received an award from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs for development of a major outpatient facility in Spotsylvania County. The facility will be leased to the federal government upon completion.
The Fredericksburg area clinic will be a four-story, 450,000-square- foot facility built on a 48-acre site with extensive frontage along U.S. Route 1 at Hood Drive. Once complete, it will be one of the largest privately owned Veterans Affairs medical centers in the country. Construction is expected to begin in 2021 with an estimated completion date in late 2023.
“The decision to locate the VA clinic in Spotsylvania between Richmond and Washington means that we will be able to better serve our veterans and lessen their burden by reducing travel time to access quality healthcare,” said Gary Skinner, chairman of the Spotsylvania County Board of Supervisors. “This move not only shines a light on Spotsylvania, but it creates jobs and opens up new possibilities for future development with the potential of benefiting the entire region."

Spotsylvania competed against the city of Fredericksburg and Stafford County for the project that was first announced in December 2017 when the Department of Veterans Affairs began advertising for outpatient clinic space mostly along the Interstate 95 corridor from Spotsylvania to Stafford.
According to Veterans Affairs officials, the new clinic will replace the area's two smaller, existing outpatient clinics and will better serve the region's growing veterans population with expanded healthcare in a state-of-the art facility. The project is expected to generate more than 300 jobs the first year it opens, with that number increasing to approximately 550 in 2026.
