Stafford Motorcyclist Killed In Fourth Of July Crash: Police

A motorcyclist from Stafford died on Sunday, July 4 when he lost control of his motorcycle on Truslow Rd, according to the sheriff's office.

STAFFORD COUNTY, VA — A motorcyclist from Stafford County died in a crash on Sunday, July 4, according to the Stafford County Sheriff's Office. The motorcyclist was identified as Byron Puente, a 27-year-old Stafford resident.

Stafford County deputies responded to the crash around 4:30 p.m. on July 4. Officials said the crash occurred near the 400 block of Truslow Lane.

Through their initial investigation, authorities determined that the driver lost control of the motorcycle, a Yamaha R1, as he entered a curve. The motorcycle left its lane and went into oncoming traffic, where it struck a Chevrolet truck, according to the sheriff's office.

The driver of the motorcycle, who was later identified as Puente, was pronounced dead at the scene. The sheriff's office is still investigating the crash.

Puente is survived by his wife, Angie, and their 2-year-old son Leon, according to a GoFundMe that was set up to benefit the family. Angie is currently pregnant with their second child.

"He was a Marine, a father, a husband, a son, a brother and the greatest friend to every single person in his life," the GoFundMe page said. "He was a light in every room and cared so deeply for those around him."

On Thursday, the GoFundMe had raised more than $14,000 towards a $20,000 goal. 78 people had already donated to help Byron Puente's surviving family.

"He was successful, driven, an incredible father to Leon and the greatest husband to Angie," the GoFundMe organizer wrote. "As Angie is preparing to deliver their second son, let’s at least help her through this part."

Byron and Angie Puente also had a baby registry organized through the Fredericksburg Target. Donations can be made through their online baby registry.

Funeral arrangements have not been announced.
