Steven Austin Underhill, 21

Steven Austin Underhill was born on May 14, 1994 in Arlington, VA to Gary Steven Underhill of Arlington and Michelle Smith Underhill of Kinston, NC.

Austin walked into the loving arms of his Savior, Jesus Christ, on Sunday, Feb. 21, 2016 at the age of 21.

Austin was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Helen Underhill and William H. Underhill, Sr. of Arlington; maternal grandmother Jan Smith of Kinston, NC; and his maternal great-grandmother Lucille Coley of Claxton, GA.

He is survived by his parents, Gary and Michelle Underhill of Fredericksburg; sister, Madison Riley Underhill; brother Garrett Smith Underhill; maternal grandfather Joseph Larry Smith of Claxton, GA; godmother Donna Ramsey of Kinston, NC; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

After graduation Austin attended James Madison University in Harrisonburg where he was currently a junior in the engineering program. He was a member of the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity and resided at the Cinderella house with his fraternity brothers. Austin received an award from the American Society of Mechanical Engineers while working on an undergraduate project.

Austin was an avid soccer player. He played competitively on travel teams as well as his middle and high school teams. He also enjoyed playing piano, snowboarding, playing video games and working out.

Austin had an infectious smile that lit up any room he entered. His witty sense of humor and mischievous antics will always be remembered. He was the kind of young man that anyone would be proud to call son, grandson, brother, and friend.

The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 25 at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg.

A service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 26 at Chancellor Baptist Church with Pastor Eric Goforth officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery.
