Two Charged in Clay Street Breaking and Entering

Thanks to a report of suspicious activity in the 4600 block of Clay Street, electronic equipment stolen from a residence has been returned to its owners. 

According to the Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to the 4600 block of Clay Street on Sept. 14 at 3:20 p.m. for a report of suspicious activity. 

"On arrival of Deputies Tittle, Walsh and Suthard they found an occupied van in the cul-de-sac and another suspect exiting the rear of a residence which had its sliding glass door shattered," said Cpt. Mike Harvey in a release.  

Deputies identified a suspect exiting the residence as Jason Lee Lawhorn, 31, of Orange. Lawhorn was charged with breaking and entering and possession of burglary tools.

The suspect in the van, Billy Lee Cooper, 21 of Orange, was waiting on Lawhorn, Harvey said, and was charged with accessory to breaking and entering.

"Lawhorn was attempting to steal various pieces of electronic equipment from the residence," said Harvey in a release. "All items were recovered and returned to the victims." 

Cooper and Lawhorn were held in jail under no bond, said Harvey.
