Virginia Heritage Wins Fight for New Traffic Light

Virginia Heritage at Lee's Parke has a new new stoplight after a car accident near the retirement community killed a resident in 2006.

Virginia Heritage at Lee’s Parke residents held a ribbon cutting Wednesday to celebrate the installation of a new stoplight after a car accident near the retirement community killed a resident in 2006.

After years of lobbying for a safer intersection, residents finally got their wish for a stoplight at the intersection of Bluff Road, Whiteheart Drive and the four-lane Spotsylvania Parkway, NBC Washington reports.

The Virginia Department of Transportation originally conducted studies in 2008 and 2012 that concluded there wasn’t enough traffic to warrant installing a $300,000 traffic signal. It wasn’t until the VDOT conducted a third study in May 2013 that the intersection finally made the cut.
