STAFFORD, VA — A man wanted for a probation violation in Norfolk was arrested early Saturday, July 20, following a lengthy chase that ended when he crashed into a fire hydrant in the area of King Street and Gordon Street, according to the Stafford County Sheriff's Office.

Scorpio Stevens, 23, of Fredericksburg, was charged with felony eluding, fleeing from law enforcement, hit and run, no driver's license, expired registration, no insurance and a traffic lane violation; and he was served his outstanding warrant.

Around 12:15 a.m., a deputy spotted a red Cadillac swerving and repeatedly crossing the fog line and lane divider on Kings Highway near Cool Spring Road. After the vehicle was pulled over on River Road, the driver took off when the deputy got out of his cruiser, according to authorities. A pursuit ensued but quickly ended when Stevens drove his car into the hydrant as well as a stop sign. Officials said he then got out and tried to run but was quickly caught.
