What's Open, Closed In Fredericksburg For Independence Day 2020
As the Independence Day holiday falls on a Saturday, some services will have changes the day prior.

FREDERICKSBURG, VA — Fourth of July is slated to look different this year due to the ongoing pandemic. Fireworks and many other celebrations in Fredericksburg and the surrounding area are cancelled, leaving residents to find ways to celebrate at home. But one thing we can count on is a scheduled holiday.
Because July 4 falls on a Saturday, the Independence Day holiday is observed on Friday, July 3. City of Fredericksburg government offices will be closed, and other services will have schedule changes.
Many services are already affected by the pandemic. Here are the openings and closings to know around the holiday:

Fredericksburg government offices: City of Fredericksburg government offices are closed on Friday, July 3. Most government buildings and offices have been closed to the public since late March. See services available for residents online.
Courts: Courts do not operate on July 3. See operating updates from the Fredericksburg Circuit Court, General District Court and Juvenile & Domestic Relations District Court.

Animal shelter: The SPCA of Fredericksburg is conducting adoptions of animals by appointment only.
Parks and Recreation: All trails and parks remain open, with the exception of certain amenities. Public restrooms in city parks and at the visitor Center are open. The Dorothy Hart Community Center is closed as are the Motts Run Reservoir and Buffett Swimming Pool.
Fredericksburg Regional Transit: FRED Transit is operating on a modified service schedule due to the coronavirus crisis.
VRE: The Virginia Railway Express will not be operating on Friday, July 3. As Virginia enters phase three on July 1, VRE will continue to run a “S” schedule and require facial coverings. The train service is also encouraging social distancing and using enhanced cleaning practices.
Libraries: Library branches in the Central Rappahannock Regional Library system, including the Fredericksburg branch, are allowing curbside pickup of materials placed on hold. However, there will be no curbside pickup at any location July 3 or 4. Patrons also can now return checked-out materials. Overdue fees are not being assessed.
Post offices: Closed on Saturday, July 4.
Fredericksburg trash & recycling: The Independence Day holiday may affect collection on Friday, July 3, the city said. Special pickup service is temporarily suspended during staff reassignments to comply with social distancing requirements. Residents can take items to Belman Road recycling center or landfill.
