FREDERICKSBURG, VA — While New Year's Day is often a day to recover from the previous night's festivities, if you do plan to head out, be aware the holiday may affect the hours of area government offices, schools, public transportation and more.

Fredericksburg Government Offices: All city offices and facilities will be closed Wednesday, Jan. 1.

State courts: Circuit Court, General District Court and Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court are closed Jan. 1.
Fredericksburg City Schools: Students are on winter break Dec. 23-Jan 3. All offices are closed.

Post Offices: Closed Jan. 1. No mail will be delivered.
FRED Transit: Closed Jan. 1. (VF1 & VS1) VRE feeder bus service operating on "S" schedule Dec. 31. No a.m. or p.m. bus service for D6 or VQ1.
VRE: Closed Jan. 1. Planned "S" schedule on Dec. 31.
Parking: Street parking allowed for four hours in downtown during the holidays instead of the normal two-hour limit. Sophia Street parking garage will be on regular schedule Jan. 1 and during the holidays. First three hours are free and each hour additional is $1 up to a maximum of $8 per day.
Central Rappahannock Regional Library: All branches will close at 3 p.m. on Dec. 31 and will remain closed Jan. 1.
Trash & Recycling: Regular service.
Movie Theaters: Most area movie theaters will be open New Year's Day. We would encourage calling your theater of choice to confirm hours.
Grocery Stores: Area grocery stores hours are as follows —
Wegmans, 2281 Carl D Silver Pkwy: Closing at 8 p.m. on Dec. 31 and opening at 6 a.m. on Jan. 1.
Publix - Cosner's Corner, 9601 Jefferson Davis Hwy: 7 a.m.-9 p.m. on Dec. 31 and Jan. 1.
Lidl, 5455 Plank Rd: Closing at 6 p.m. on Dec. 31 and reopening at 8 a.m. on Jan. 2.
Giant Food: All stores are open New Year's Day, though specific hours may vary by location.
ALDI: Stores will be open 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Dec. 31 and will be closed Jan. 1.
