• Amid lawmaker concerns, Va. transportation board to consider rail and trail plan in January • Virginia Mercury (virginiamercury.com) — State rail officials are advancing a plan to buy and reuse a long-idle Shenandoah Valley rail corridor, while also keeping open the option to someday extend Virginia Railway Express service west toward Gainesville and Front Royal. For now, the focus is on funding a rail-with-trail concept, with supporters touting tourism and opponents questioning costs and transparency ahead of key Commonwealth Transportation Board decisions in January.
