Huntington Levee Community Meeting Slated for March 9
An update on the planned Huntington levee system will be presented at a public meeting on Thursday, March 9.

FAIRFAX COUNTY, VA -- An update on the planned Huntington levee system will be presented at a public meeting on Thursday, March 9 at 6:30 p.m., at the Martha Washington Library, located at 6614 Fort Hunt Road in Alexandria.
Fairfax County voters approved a $30 million stormwater bond in November 2012 to fund the construction of the levee and pumping station.

As the project begins construction, residents are invited to come hear about the progress being made toward protecting the Huntington community from Cameron Run's floodwaters. The project manager will provide an overview of the project, discuss the project's status, and share upcoming construction steps.

Based on a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers study, the levee is being designed to protect homes from flash flooding caused by storms up to 100-year events, storms that have a 1 percent chance of occurring in a given year. Construction is scheduled to begin in late 2017 and last through spring 2019.
A public groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled for Thursday, March 23 at 10 a.m. The ceremony will be held at Huntington Park, at the end of Liberty Drive.
