Labor Day 2017: What's Open, Closed In Greater Alexandria
As the end of summer approaches, here's what will be open and closed on Labor Day in Greater Alexandria.

GREATER ALEXANDRIA, VA—If you happen to work at the pool or beach, Labor Day might be one of the busiest days of the year. But county government and other services will take a break for the holiday.
Fairfax County government offices will be closed for Labor Day, as well as libraries and schools, while services like public transit and recreation centers will operate, although on a different schedule.
Here are the openings/closings to be aware of on Monday, Sept. 4.

County Offices: closed

Fairfax County Public Schools and administrative offices: closed
State Offices: Commonwealth of Virginia offices in Fairfax County will be closed on Sept. 4, including Circuit Court, General District Court and Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court.
Animal shelter: The Fairfax County Animal Shelter is closed on Mondays.
Community Centers: Neighborhood and Community Services (NCS) programs, activities and facilities will be closed.
Fairfax Connector and Fastran: Fairfax Connector bus service will operate on a Sunday schedule. Fastran will not operate on Sept. 4.
Libraries: closed
Metrorail: Information available at www.wmata.com
Metrobus: Information available at www.wmata.com
Parking – Parking is free at park and ride locations and Metro parking lots.
Parks: Colvin Run Mill and Sully Historic Site are open 11 a.m.-4 p.m. on Sept. 4. E.C. Lawrence, Hidden Oaks, Hidden Pond and Huntley Meadows Nature Centers are open noon-5 p.m. Riverbend Park Visitor Center will be open 9 a.m.-5 p.m.. Frying Pan Farm Park will be open 9 a.m.-5 p.m. but the Visitor Center will be closed. Green Spring Gardens ' Horticultural Center will be open noon-4:30 p.m. and the Historic House will be closed.
Recreation Centers: Rec centers will have regular hours on Sept. 4 and will close at 6 p.m. The only Rec Center closed is George Washington RECenter.
Recycling – I-66 Transfer Station (4618 West Ox Road, Fairfax) and I-95 Landfill (9850 Furnace Road, Lorton) will be open Sept. 4.
Trash Pickup: Contact individual Fairfax County and private service providers for holiday hours.
