Man Allegedly Attempts to Set Woman on Fire in Hybla Valley Area: Police

After argument in car, police say man poured flammable liquid on woman, then attempted to set liquid on fire, with baby in backseat.

FAIRFAX COUNTY, VA -- Fairfax County Police say a man allegedly tried to set a woman on fire Tuesday morning in the Hybla Valley area of the county.

Officers were called to the 2600 block of Arlington Drive (see map below) Tuesday at about 8:20 a.m. for the report of a man who had allegedly tried to set a woman on fire. Officers met with the victim, a 26-year-old woman from Fort Washington, Md.

The initial investigation determined that the victim went to the home of a 26-year-old man, who is the father of her 1-year-old child, with the intent of dropping the child off as usual, so she could go to work, police said. When she got to the man’s home on Arlington Drive, he jumped in her car and an argument started.

The suspect, Lamar Thomas, was found a short time later, at his home, police said. He was arrested and taken to the Adult Detention Center where he was charged with attempted malicious wounding and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. The 1-year-old child remained inside the car during the incident and was not injured.
