Man Seriously Injured Monday Night After Mob Attack in Mount Vernon Area: Police

Police say two men and three women assaulted and robbed a pedestrian on Madge Lane in the Mount Vernon area.

FAIRFAX COUNTY, VA -- Police say a 37-year old man was walking home Monday night at about 9:45 p.m. in the 8400 block of Madge Lane (see map below) when two men and three women approached him. One man was holding some type of stick and struck the victim, police said.

Then the rest of the group started to assault him, according to police. The victim tried to use his phone to call for help but the suspects took it and continued to assault him, police said. The mob fled and a group of passersby helped the victim home. He was later transported to the hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries, according to police.

The suspects were described as black, police said. The male suspect that first struck him was about 19 years old and wearing a red and white sweater.
