Police: 35-Year-Old Man Assaulted and Robbed

Police charged Mauricio Melendez, 27, with malicious wounding after he got into a fight on the 8400 block of Richmond Highway. On Sunday, June 19 at around 2 a.m. Mendez reportedly struck the 24-year-old victim in the face with a beer bottle outside of a restaurant.  A patrol officer found the victim walking from the restaurant and sought to help. Police say the victim was treated at the scene for non life-threatening injuries.

Police say a 35-year-old man was assaulted and robbed of his money on the 3200 block of Audubon Avenue. The man was walking home on Monday, June 20 at around 5:05 p.m. when he was approached by three men. One of the men displayed a knife and demanded money. Police say he assaulted the victim, took cash, then all three suspects fled. The first suspect was described as wearing black T-shirt and jeans. He had shoulder-length dreadlocks.  He was wearing a black T-shirt and jeans. He had shoulder length dreadlocks. The other two suspects were described as being in their late teens to early 20s, wearing black T-shirts. The victim did not require medical treatment.

Police say a 21-year-old man was assaulted and robbed of his wallet and cell phone on Wednesday, June 22 around 12:35 a.m. The victim was walking on the 8500 block of Greenleaf Street, when he was approached by five other males.  Police say one suspect displayed a knife and several others assaulted the victim.  After they took the man’s belongings they fled. The suspects were described as being in their late teens to early 20s. One suspect was described as tall and skinny male with dreadlocks, wearing a black tank top and black shorts. The victim did not require medical treatment.

Fort Hunt Crime

The following incidents were reported by the Mount Vernon Police District Station between June 15th and June 22nd.

Police say two iPod were stolen from a residence on the 900 block of Darton Drive.

Police say keys were stolen from a school on the 8400 block of Fort Hunt Road.

Police say an iPod Touch was stolen from the 2500 block of Parkers Lane.

Police say a bicycle was stolen from a residence on the 2700 block of Sherwood Hall Lane.

Police say a Toyota was stolen from the 8800 block of Fort Hunt Road.

Police say a wallet was stolen from a vehicle on the 8100 block of West Boulevard Drive.
