Police: Teen Assaults Police Officer by Smashing Glass Window

The following incidents were reported by the Mount Vernon police district station between June 8^th and June 15^th.

Police say a 15-year-old boy wounded a police officer after he smashed the window of a home on the 8700 block of Triumph Court. The incident occurred after police were called to the house on Tuesday, June 14^th at around 1:45 p.m. for a domestic dispute.  Police found the teen locked inside the home and another family member outside. While officers were trying to speak to the teen through a window, police say he smashed the window with a baseball bat, sending glass into the officer’s eyes and face. Additional officers responded and took the boy into custody. Police say he was transported to the Fairfax County Juvenile Detention Center. Police charged the teen with malicious wounding on a law enforcement officer, destruction of property and assault on a family member. The officer was treated for non life-threatening injuries at a local hospital.

Police charged Darnell Sellers, 20, of no fixed address, with attempted robbery on Thursday, June 9. Police say at around 8:45 p.m. a 32-year-old man was riding his bike in the 7700 block of Richmond Highway and stopped to talk with Sellers. Sellers reportedly tried to take the victim’s bike. Police say that after a brief struggle between Sellers and the victim, the victim was able to take the bike back and flee. Police apprehended Sellers a short time later in the area.

Police say a bicycle was stolen from a residence on the 2700 block of Woodwalk Court.
