Waterfront Redevelopment: Virginia High Court to Hear Appeal in June
The Virginia Supreme Court will hear the appeal of three Alexandria residents protesting zoning changes made as part of the redevelopment of the Old Town Alexandria waterfront.

The Virginia Supreme Court is scheduled to hear the latest appeal on the City of Alexandria's plans to redevelop its riverside.
Three women—whom supporters refer to as the “Iron Ladies”—appealed a March 16, 2012 decision by the Alexandria Circuit Court. The lower court ruled that City Council took proper action in voting to approve the waterfront plan and related zoning changes.
Those zoning changes could allow small hotels and other new construction along the Old Town Alexandria greenspace.

The women argue that council should not have approved the plan because it did not follow an appropriate process. Among many complaints, they say Alexandria’s planning and zoning director should have processed their zoning protest before the council’s January 2012 5-2 vote on the waterfront plan.
