Washington and Lee Announces November Community Grants (wlu.edu) — Washington and Lee University has awarded over $28,000 in community grants to 12 nonprofits serving Lexington and Rockbridge County, with a second funding round coming this spring. Local organizations can submit proposals now for review by March 20, 2026, with details and contacts provided for electronic or mailed applications to the Lexington campus office.

Meet a Colleague: Paul Youngman (wlu.edu) — Washington and Lee professor Paul Youngman, who says he’d build his dream home “right here in Lexington” shares a lighthearted look at his life on and off campus. From teaching beginner German to jumping out of airplanes and loving raclette, his answers offer a personal glimpse for neighbors who may know him only from the classroom.
   

3. Brandon Spalding Named ODAC and NCAA South Region Men's Cross Country Coach of the Year (wlu.edu) — Lexington’s Washington and Lee University is celebrating head men’s cross country coach Brandon Spalding, who was named both ODAC and NCAA South Region Coach of the Year after leading the Generals to conference and regional titles. His squad produced one of the best seasons in program history, capped by a program-best 20th-place finish at the NCAA Division III Championship.
   

4. Governor Gives Christmas Gift To Cadets (thenews-gazette.com) — Gov. Glenn Youngkin marked his birthday in Lexington by surprising Virginia Military Institute cadets at their final home basketball game before winter furlough, granting amnesty for unserved duties and commitments. He joined the Corps in Cameron Hall, was serenaded with “Happy Birthday,” and celebrated on court after VMI’s 86–70 win over Loyola.
