Blotter: Identity Theft In Bonney Lake, Car Impounded In Sumner

TACOMA, WA —Here are details about incidents the Pierce County Sheriff's Office dealt with during the July 4 holiday weekend.
Commercial burglary in Graham
Dates: Between July 2 and July 5
Location: 10100 block of 224th St. E, Graham
Details: At some point over the weekend, somebody broke into a gaming lounge and stole equipment. The suspect took a television valued at $900 and a camera system valued at $400. Deputies are working with the business owner to obtain video surveillance of the suspect.

Mailbox theft in South Hill
Time/Date: 4:04 a.m. on July 3
Location: 88th Ave E and 159th St. E, South Hill
Details: A neighbor reported the theft of a community mailbox that contained mail for eight residences. Deputies inspected what was left of the structure and determined that it had been pried from its base. The neighbor showed deputies a video of the suspect's car, but the video quality was too poor to develop a description of the car or the suspect.

Rollover accident in Eatonville
Time/Date: 3:55 p.m. on July 3
Location: 47200 block of Alder Cutoff Rd. E, Eatonville
Details: A 28-year-old man from California was driving his Honda Civic northbound on Alder Cutoff Rd. E, when he lost control on a curve, left the roadway and flipped over. The car came to rest on the driver's side. The driver and his two passengers (ages 27 and 28) were transported to the hospital for treatment.
Identify theft in Bonney Lake
Date: July 3
Location: Bonney Lake
Details: An 83-year-old man bought three new Amazon Firestick devices, but was having issues setting them up. So, he decided to call tech support. He Googled "Firestick support" and called the number that popped up. He spoke with a representative (scammer), who told him he would need to gain remote access to his computer in order to fix the issue.
The scammer remotely accessed the computer and activated the camera to "verify the man's identity." The scammer eventually told the man that he couldn't solve the issue and hung up. As soon as the call ended, the man started receiving pop-up notifications on his computer telling him that malware had been detected. He later checked his bank account and found 21 fraudulent PayPal charges totaling $2,246.
Assault in Parkland
Date: July 4
Location: 14100 block of Pacific Ave. S, Parkland
Details: A large fight broke out in the parking lot of a bar, and a 28-year-old woman was struck by a white sedan. The victim said she landed on the hood of the car before falling off. She believes the male driver hit her on purpose as he was leaving the parking lot.
Unoccupied vehicle impounded in Sumner
Time/Date: 9:41 a.m. on July 4
Location: 78th Street E and Riverside Drive E, Sumner
Details: A deputy responded to a report of a vehicle that had gone down an embankment. The deputy arrived and found the vehicle unoccupied and upside down in a small stream. Firefighters were also on scene and advised the deputy that the vehicle was leaking fuel into the stream, which feeds into the Puyallup River.
The deputy decided that the vehicle was creating a hazardous environmental situation, so he decided to have the vehicle pulled from the stream and impounded. He also notified the Department of Ecology. Skid marks on the roadway suggest the vehicle took a corner too fast and went down a 25-foot embankment.
Damage from fireworks in South Hill
Time/Date: 9:30 p.m. on July 4
Location: 15900 block of 78th Ave. Ct. E, South Hill
Details: The victim reported that a fireworks artillery shell broke his kitchen window and landed on the floor. He said it happened while a bunch of his neighbors were outside lighting fireworks. Deputies were unable to determine where the shell came from.
Shots fired in Spanaway
Time/Date: 1:12 a.m. on July 5
Location: 1100 block of 187th St. Ct. E, Spanaway
Details: The victim returned to his home after 4th of July festivities and found a bullet hole near his kitchen floor. He also noticed that there were bullet holes in his pool, kayak, barbecue grill and on his patio. Deputies found four rounds at the scene. The investigation is ongoing.
