Bonney Lake Gathers For National Night Out

The kids had fun exploring Bonney Lake Police vehicles, an Airlift NW helicopter and playing an assortment of games at National Night Out in Bonney Lake Tuesday while parents and family members had a chance to visit with local law enforcement and learn more about the importance of neighbors in community crime prevention and emergency preparedness.

"We have our community service officers who are really in tune with the neighborhoods and the different block watches," said Police Chief Dana Powers. "We have this event as a kind of culmination of all the work all year long. It's always about crime prevention and getting out to the neighborhoods, taking back the neighborhoods and not letting crime in."

And then there's the weather. "We have a lot of storms here and when the storms take down the trees, we've got to be careful of our elderly neighbors next door who might be out of power," she said. "Knowing who your neighbor is and are they capable of taking care of themselves, or knowing that your other neighbor might have her husband out of town and she needs help with the little kids because they're out of power. It's just about getting neighbors together ... and really looking out for one another."
